DIY Vanity for Compact Spaces
Creating a space for myself in the bedroom was a task because it's a small size, but it had to be done. As a woman living with what seems like ten guys, having space just for me is a necessity, and a vanity was the best option. With all the makeup and hair products/tools I possess, you would have thought I would have done this a lot sooner. After endless vanity searches, I couldn't find the right one that fit my needs and make me smile at the same time, so I created my own.
The space for my vanity itself is super tight, so I had to be cautious about the size of the table or desk I purchased. The Homfa Make Up Vanity Table is approximately 20" W x 39." 4 L x 30" H. This beautiful table was easy to assemble and fit perfectly in with my room's Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. The light wood legs are sturdy without wobbling, and the white desktop is large enough where I can place a few makeup items, jewelry stand, faux plants, and still have enough room to sit down and use my laptop. Having it as a multifunctional space was a huge plus. There are also two drawers in the desk that are bigger than I expected. I have enough room to fit my makeup pallets, an organizer for my brushes and tools, and just enough room for my hair tools also.
Doing a full face of makeup could take up to 45 minutes to an hour. Sitting in the wrong chair can leave you uncomfortable, and that shows up through your beat. The Rivet Clarice Dining Chair was perfect and seemed like a chair that would live up to its reviews on Amazon. Beautifully upholstered in hunter green velvet fabric, this easy-to-put-together chair added texture and color to the clean white feel of the area. Unfortunately, this chair has not been in stock since I seemed to have purchased the last one a couple of months back, but here are a few similar styles that could have gone well with the look.
Luckily this idea of creating my vanity was well before the Covid-19 stay home order and closures of some of my favorite stores to shop for home decor (*cough* Marshall's). Store's like HomeSense, Marshall's, TJ Max, and HomeGoods are great for picking up organizers, rugs, and wall decor without breaking your budget.
When creating the look for your DIY vanity, you may want to incorporate a mirror to complete the overall look. Even though the Project 62 brand Brass/Gold Oval-ish mirror is not very useful when doing my makeup, especially in the evening, it complements the space. To make up for the lack of light and sight to do my makeup, I use a portable vanity mirror with LED lighting. This mini mirror is blush pink and not pictured but will soon be spray painted gold and adorn my vanity in its rightful place.
I am enjoying my space, and it unknowingly brightened, created depth, and added character to my small room, and I couldn't be happier.
