29Rooms DC presented by Refinery 29

In this age of social media, taking amazing pictures at venues or events that are deemed “post worthy” have created a buzz for interactive pop up museums, art exhibits and even bars. Here in Washington, DC you can experience a few of these largely creative events at venues like Pop Up Bar DC and ARTECHOUSE. A few weeks ago DC was graced with a traveling Pop Up Exhibit hosted by Refinery29 fittingly called 29Rooms. First launched in September of 2015 on Refinery29’s 10-year Anniversary, The future of 29Rooms has expanded from a creative way to bring life to the brand to being a creative impact on culture and imagination.

I was so excited when I found out that 29Rooms was uprooting and going on tour to major cities with Washington, DC being one of them. I collected my coins and gathered my good girlfriends to get our tickets ready for the experience. Each room tells a vibrant and colorful story with its unique interactive installation. I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite rooms that are worth waiting in line to get into!

“A Conversation with Your Inner Child”

This room resonated with me the most. Aside from the fact that I am very much in tune with my inner childishness, growing up, there we’re somethings that I wish I would have known about myself and who I really was apart from trauma, heartache and anxiety. The purpose of this room was to have you talk with your inner child and write on a post-it note something you would tell your child self. Maybe in a parallel world the child me was reading exactly what I wrote.

“Hold Your Head High and Wear Your Crown Higher”.

“No Filter”

This room was such a perfect area for photographers and creatives. With multi-colored lighting and a dark moody background, being inspired to bring out the creative in yourself was made easy. It gave the feel of class pictures or pictures at the mall but on a higher scale.

“Dance Break”

Glitter! Glam! Music! And a very great time! This room had it’s own DJ and a dry eraser board that invited you to write down a party song that you personally wanted to groove to while others joined in. This room felt like what the inside of my brain looks like on a regular basis. The atmosphere was inviting and everyone had a smile on their face even if they were too shy to bust a move. Of course I dug deep into the pit of the music registry in my head and picked a song that I knew everyone would bop with. Even the DJ had to admit that the song choice was a good one and let me behind the 1’s & 2’s. If you want to hear my selection, click here.

“Teen Bedroom”

Entering this room was like a time warp covered in fur. With a Nintendo64 playing Mario Cart on a mini TV and posters hanging of artist in the 90’s, I couldn’t help but look for the see-through house phone I had when I was a preteen. It brought back memories of being in my room on a Saturday, playing music and on the phone with my best friends all day. If only we could all go back to those times for a brief second when something like this reminds us of how truly easy we had it.

Refinery29 has created a phenomenal experience and moved it right into our back yards. I encourage every one to who is a creative in anyway to get your ticket and go when 29Rooms hits your city. You can check out the next locations and dates at www.29rooms.com. Enjoy some more images of the other rooms I visited while drifting from each room.
